I have to thank you for your letter informing me that you will be able to get on with the setting of this book at once. I shall be obliged if you will let me have estimate as follows:-

Printing 2000 copies, Crown 8vo. [octavo], in 12pt Caslon Old Face, the page to be similar to that of JACOB'S ROOM, i.e. 28 lines of text in page, but the heading between thin rules. The top edges to be stained. Binding 1000 copies in one of the fancy or marbled cloths similar to that in which you bound AVVAKUM; perhaps you would let me see the samples in order to make final choice. The title, author's name, and imprint to be stamped in gilt on spine. The jacket will be on paper similar to that used for JACOB'S ROOM, and I will send you later design to be printed from a line block in two colours. Will you include estimate for getting line block made as you did in the case of that book? The paper used for printing the book should be as near as possible to that in JACOB'S ROOM.

I should be obliged if you would begin composition of the book before final approval of the estimate as the American publisher is so anxious to begin setting from corrected proofs as early as possible.
