A biography of Byron's illegitimate daughter by Jane Clairemont, this book tells the story of the short, five-year life of the girl and of her tribulations as Byron's daughter. The biography uses free indirect discourse, focalized through the baby, to recreate her sensory and emotional experience as an abandoned child. The biography contains some biographical apparatuses, such as a bibliography and some replicated letters, but plays freely constructs emotional narratives for the child and draws the descriptions of Jane Clairemont directly from Peacock's Nightmare Abbey.
