As neither of us is likely to persuade the other to his opinion can we not agree to differ, especially as neither of us has suggested anything discreditable of the other? Is there anything we need to remember except that we have both done our best? As you well know, I

should regret having to go to another publisher for the cheap edition. May I suggest that before you decide about it you should wait a month at least? I am not suggesting that you were hasty but only that, personalities apart - and I am fully conscious that mine is unlovely- your mature opinion may prove to be that the job is worth doing.
