Personal
Dear Harold,
We are sending the proofs of a novel by an Indian called Ali, the title being Of Things that Pass, to your Ministry tomorrow to be looked at by the Censor. We think very well of the novel and so does E. M. Forster, but we also think that in view of the present situation it is advisable that it should be looked at by the Censor. It is, however, a work of art and I hope you won’t mind my suggesting that you get it read by some one who would realise that.
Yours,
