[pre-printed letterhead] THE BRITISH COUNCIL 3 HANOVER STREET LONDON, W.1.
John Lehmann Esq.,
601 Carrington House,
Hertford Street, W.1.
8th December, 1943.
Dear Mr. Lehmann,
I enclose herewith a copy of a telegram which has been sent to Professor Boase, the British Council's representative in Egypt, who is the head of the office from which the "Citadel" is published.
I gather from our conversation to-day that the wording of this announcement meets with your approval, and I sincerely trust that its publication, together with the agreed payment of £12. 12s. in respect of the three items concerned, for which I enclose a cheque herewith, will serve as an expression of the British Council's most sincere regret.
I should like finally to thank you for assuring us that this unfortunate incident does not affect the general approval with which you regard the type of British Council work abroad, of which the "Citadel" is an example.
Yours sincerely, | T. F. Lindsay [signature] | Assistant Director, | Press Division.
