December 30, 1926.

Dear Mr. Woolf:

Many thanks for your letter of December 11th. I had no idea your book of essays would be in proof so soon, and I am delighted to hear that you will be able to send proofs in a few days. As to the possibility of our getting it out this spring, I have had to decide in the negative because out spring list was already made up when your letter came and was being printed. While I should much prefer to publish at about the same time as you do, I expect the disadvantages of later publication would not be especially serious for us and it would obviously be unreasonable of us to ask you to wait so long. We will therefore make no objection to your publishing the book this spring.

For your wife’s novel, however, I do feel that simultaneous publication is most essential. If we were to publish much later than you, the number of copies which would be imported of your edition would be very considerable. I shall look forward to the manuscript and see at once what the chances are of serialization. I note that for printing we must wait for revised manuscript.

Sincerely yours, | Donald Brace [handwritten signature]
