Spencer Curtis Brown Esq.,
6 Henrietta Street, W.C.2.

Dear Curtis Brown,

I have discussed your letter of the 15th. with my partner. Though we do not feel there is much chance of recouping ourselves, we are prepared to pay an advance of £20 (t[*w*]enty pounds) on Ahmed Ali's book; but we will raise his royalties to 15% after the first thousand copies. We cannot, however, agree to exclude Canada, as we have an important trade there. We would also like an option on the next two books, whether fiction or otherwise.

Yours sincerely | John Lehmann [signature] | John Lehmann.
