The Village in the Jungle was first published in 1913 & was repeatedly reprinted until it went out of print with so many other books during the war.  It tells the tragic story of a Sinhalese jungle village & the people who live in it. The central figures are a jungle man & his two daughters; the theme of their story is a struggle against man, fate, & nature.
