Pack My Bag: A Self-Portrait

Green (a pseudonym for Henry Yorke)'s exquisitely beautiful autobiography was written with a presentiment of his own death in WWII. He writes of his boyhood and his education at Eton and Oxford, and about his decision to become a factory manager after leaving Oxford mid-degree. He uses no personal names in the book and elucidates his elliptical style of living, which is reflected in the difficult and spare style of his novels.
