First Edition of Jacob's Room

Woolf's third novel elaborates the experiments in form and narration undertaken in the stories of Monday or Tuesday (1919) into a novel-length work. In it, Woolf describes her protagonist, Jacob Flanders, almost entirely from the perspective of other characters who encounter him. Jacob's Room marked a watershed in Woolf's development as a writer and the history of modernist writing in English.
